A striking video from Hansalpur, Gujarat, shows a massive stockyard filled with rows upon rows of Maruti Suzuki cars. The sight captures the scale of India’s automobile production and reflects the “Make in India, Make for the World” vision that Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted this week while launching the company’s first Made in India electric car, the e-VITARA.

The Hansalpur plant, commissioned in 2017, is fully owned by Suzuki Motor Corporation and supplies exclusively to Maruti Suzuki India Limited. With an annual production capacity of 7,50,000 cars, it stands among the most important automotive facilities in the country. Spread over hundreds of acres, the stockyard displays only 2-3 percent of the company’s annual output, yet it looks like a never-ending sea of cars.

The plant produces popular models such as the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, and Fronx, many of which are shipped to over 100 countries. Gujarat has become the hub of Maruti Suzuki’s export strategy, helping India secure its place as the third-largest exporter of passenger vehicles globally in 2023-24.

The automobile sector today contributes nearly 7 percent to India’s GDP and supports more than 37 million jobs, according to government data. With manufacturing bases like Hansalpur, Gujarat has emerged as a leader in this industry, attracting both automakers and component manufacturers.

What looks like a stockyard of parked vehicles is actually a window into India’s rising industrial strength. Each car is not just meant for Indian roads but also for Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia. The scene at Hansalpur is a reminder that India is no longer just a big market for cars-it is now a global manufacturing hub.
