Incident Details

The flight, operated using a Bombardier Q400 aircraft, experienced a loose interior window frame mid-flight. SpiceJet clarified that the dislodged part was a “non-structural trim component,” primarily used for shade, and did not affect the aircraft’s structural integrity.

In an official statement, the airline said, “A cosmetic (interior) window frame on one of the Q400 aircraft became loose during flight and was found dislodged. Cabin pressurisation remained normal throughout, and there was no impact on passenger safety.”

Immediate Rectification

Upon landing at Pune Airport, the dislodged frame was promptly fixed following standard maintenance procedures. SpiceJet emphasized that the Q400 aircraft is designed with multiple protective window layers, including a pressure-bearing outer pane, ensuring safety even in rare instances of cosmetic malfunctions.

Passenger Concerns & Social Media Outcry

Despite the airline’s reassurances, a passenger raised concerns about the aircraft’s airworthiness, sharing a video of the incident on X (formerly Twitter). The post read:

“#SpiceJet from Goa to Pune today. The whole interior window assembly just fell off mid-flight. And this flight is now supposed to take off and head to Jaipur. Wonder if it’s airworthy..”

The passenger tagged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation safety regulator, seeking clarification.

SpiceJet’s Response

SpiceJet reiterated that the issue was minor and posed no risk to flight operations. The airline maintains that all safety protocols were followed, and the aircraft was deemed fit for subsequent flights after necessary inspections.

Key Takeaways

  • No Safety Threat: The dislodged part was purely cosmetic.
  • Quick Resolution: Repairs were completed post-landing.
  • Aircraft Integrity Intact: Q400’s multi-layered windows ensure passenger safety.

While such incidents are rare, they highlight the importance of stringent maintenance checks and passenger awareness regarding in-flight safety measures.
