Swift Action Prevents Catastrophe in Sirhind

A major tragedy was averted near the Sirhind railway station in Punjab when a fire erupted in the Amritsar-Saharsa Garib Rath Express. According to a PTI report, the incident occurred just half a kilometre ahead of Ambala, and the train was halted immediately after smoke was seen billowing from one of its coaches.

Timeline of the Sirhind Train Fire Incident

The fire broke out in the G-19 AC coach of Train No. 12204 early on Saturday morning. The train, which was en route to Ambala Cantt., made an unscheduled stop as railway attendant Amandeep Singh promptly pulled the emergency chain upon noticing the smoke, initiating the emergency protocol.

Evacuation and Emergency Response

Firefighters and Government Railway Police (GRP) responded swiftly to the scene. Quoting Sirhind GRP SHO Ratan Lal, PTI reported that no casualties were reported as all passengers were evacuated in time. The fire was brought under control shortly after, preventing it from spreading further.

Damage and Investigation into the Cause

Three coaches were damaged in this incident. While the exact cause is still under investigation, initial reports suggest an electrical short circuit may be to blame. The quick detachment of the affected coaches helped limit the damage. As per the PTI report, the cause of this Sirhind train fire is under investigation.
