Siddharth Shirole, MLA from Shivajinagar, highlighted key concerns about Pune’s electricity network at a review meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar on Saturday. The meeting of the District Power Distribution Coordination Committee was attended by senior MSEDCL officers, administrative officials, and public representatives.

Shirole said his focus was on making the city’s power supply safer, more reliable, and transparent for citizens. He stressed the need for advance communication of scheduled maintenance through SMS and social media so that people are not caught off guard during power cuts.

He also called for an end to the practice of making citizens pay for repair materials such as cables, insisting that the responsibility should remain with the power utility. Another major concern he raised was safety around transformers and DP units, especially in crowded residential areas. He suggested mandatory protective compounds to prevent accidents.

Shirole further pressed for underground cabling across Pune to reduce risks and improve the city’s aesthetics. He also urged the state government to fast-track approval for the RDSS scheme in Pune, which is expected to modernize the distribution system.

“This meeting marks a crucial step toward building a power distribution system that is efficient, accountable, and future-ready for Pune,” Shirole said after the discussions.
