Sharad Pawar Hospitalized at Pune’s Ruby Hall Clinic: Supriya Sule Shares Health Update After Chest Infection Diagnosis
Sharad Pawar, the veteran patriarch of Maharashtra politics, was admitted to Pune’s Ruby Hall Clinic on Monday afternoon after complaining of severe chest congestion and breathing difficulties.
Medical Diagnosis and Treatment
Following his admission, a team of specialized doctors led by Dr. Parvez Grant, Chief Cardiologist and Managing Trustee of Ruby Hall Clinic, conducted a series of diagnostic tests. “A CT scan has confirmed a chest infection,” Dr. Grant stated. While the 85-year-old leader remains under observation, the medical team is currently deciding whether he will be hospitalized overnight or moved for further care.
Despite the clinical setting, sources at the hospital noted that the NCP (SP) chief appeared alert and even stepped out of his vehicle on his own before being assisted into the facility via a wheelchair.
Supriya Sule’s Update: “Baba Needs 5 Days of Antibiotics”
Taking to X (formerly Twitter) to address concerned supporters, his daughter and Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule provided a reassuring update on her father’s condition.
“Baba has developed chest congestion and will need a 5-day course of antibiotics. Fortunately, all other vital parameters are normal,” Sule shared. She further expressed her gratitude to the medical community, adding, “Thank you all for your good wishes and constant support. A heartfelt thank you to all the doctors from the bottom of my heart.”
Sule, along with her mother Pratibha Pawar, has been by the senior leader’s side since they arrived from their Baramati residence earlier today.

Extreme Exertion Amid Personal Tragedy
The sudden hospitalization comes at a time of immense personal and political strain for the Pawar family. The veteran leader has been mourning the tragic loss of his nephew, Ajit Pawar, who passed away in a plane crash on January 28.
Despite the personal grief, Sharad Pawar remained active, meeting with party workers and monitoring the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti election results, which were being declared today. This “extreme exertion,” combined with his history as an oral cancer survivor, led to the persistent cough and throat infection that eventually necessitated hospital care.
Political Reactions and Local Support
As news of his admission spread, a large number of supporters and party workers began gathering outside Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune. Political leaders across party lines have reportedly reached out to the family to wish the Maratha stalwart a speedy recovery.
With the Zilla Parishad results showing a strong performance for the NCP (SP) in their bastion of Baramati, the health of the party’s “Bhishmapitamah” remains the central focus for the state.
