Samruddhi Expressway Final Stretch Opens June 5: Mumbai-Nagpur Travel Time Halved to 8 Hours

Mumbai, June 2, 2025 – In a landmark development for Maharashtra’s infrastructure, the final 76-km stretch of the Samruddhi Expressway (officially named Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg) is set to open on June 5, completing the 701-km high-speed corridor between Mumbai and Nagpur. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the segment, which connects Igatpuri (Nashik) to Amane (Thane), with the route opening to traffic the same day.
Key Features of the Final Stretch
Constructed at a cost of ₹1,182 crore, the newly completed section includes:
- Three major interchanges at Igatpuri, Kutghar (Shahapur), and Amane (Thane).
- India’s longest road tunnel (7.8 km) through Kasara Ghat, eliminating the treacherous 450-metre climb on the old Mumbai-Nashik route.
- Reduced elevation to just 160 metres, cutting travel time between Igatpuri and Amane from 90 minutes to 40 minutes.
A Game-Changer for Maharashtra
With the full expressway now operational, travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur will drop from 16 hours to just 8 hours. The ₹55,000-crore project, designed for speeds up to 150 kmph, features:
- 33 major bridges
- 274 minor bridges
- 65 flyovers
- 6 tunnels
The expressway passes through 10 districts and 390 villages, promising to boost trade, tourism, and economic growth across the state.
Confirmed.

Phased Completion & Challenges
Initially facing resistance over land acquisition, the project gained momentum under CM Fadnavis’s vision. It was completed in phases:
- Nagpur-Shirdi (Dec 2022): Inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
- Shirdi-Bharvir (May 2023): Opened by then-CM Eknath Shinde.
- Bharvir-Igatpuri (March 2024): Launched by MSRDC Minister Dada Bhuse.
The final Igatpuri-Amane stretch marks the culmination of one of India’s most ambitious expressway projects, set to transform regional connectivity.
