Purandar International Airport: Land Measurement Nears Completion; Construction Likely to Begin by Mid 2026

In a significant leap forward for aviation infrastructure in Maharashtra, the long-awaited Purandar International Airport is rapidly moving from blueprint to reality. Recent announcements from the district administration confirm that the crucial land acquisition phase is on track, bringing the mega-project closer to the start of construction.
Key Milestones and Timeline
The land measurement survey, a foundational step for the project, is progressing at an impressive pace. According to Purandar Collector Jitendra Dudi, the measurement process is scheduled to be fully completed by 16th October 2025. This transparent and participatory exercise has already covered a majority of the required 1,285 hectares across seven villages in Purandar taluka.

Following the survey, the actual compensation settlement for affected landowners is slated to begin from 20th November 2025. The administration has set an ambitious goal to wrap up the entire land acquisition process before the end of this year. If this timeline holds, we can expect construction tenders for the Purandar International Airport to be floated as early as the first quarter of 2026.
A Closer Look at the Land Acquisition Process
The acquisition spans seven villages: Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Pargaon, Munjwadi, and Khanwadi. Six dedicated teams are using modern surveying tools to ensure accuracy and speed. Collector Dudi emphasized the cooperative nature of the process, noting that 95% consent has been received from farmers, with continuous communication being maintained with all stakeholders to ensure fairness and transparency.

Compensation and Community Focus
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) is funding the acquisition, with approximately ₹4,500 crore earmarked for compensation. The district administration is not only focused on a swift process but also on the long-term welfare of the landowners. Plans are in place to provide skill development and financial literacy training to ensure the compensation is used wisely for sustainable benefits.

The Vision for Purandar International Airport
The Purandar International Airport is not just another airport; it is envisioned as a transformative infrastructure project for the entire region. Designed to serve Pune and central Maharashtra, its sheer scale is impressive. The plans include:
- Two parallel runways of 4000×60 metres.
- A massive planned capacity of 75 million passengers per annum (MPPA).
This strategic development promises to decongest existing air traffic, boost economic growth, and establish the region as a key logistics hub.
