Pune’s Nashik Phata-Khed Elevated Corridor to Cut Travel Time to 20 Mins
Travel between Pune and the bustling industrial hub of Chakan is set for a massive transformation. A planned 30-kilometer elevated corridor promises to slash the current grueling commute down to a breezy 20 minutes.
The project, which will run along the existing Pune-Nashik Highway (NH 60) from Nashik Phata to Rajgurunagar (Khed), is designed to bypass the chronic congestion that plagues the area, especially around Chakan. This is welcome news for the thousands of daily commuters and the heavy freight traffic that uses this vital route to access the Chakan Industrial Area.
Work is already underway to get the project off the ground, with authorities currently focused on the crucial stage of land acquisition. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is leading the charge, identifying and surveying the necessary plots.
To ensure the corridor is accessible, entry and exit ramps are planned for several key villages, including Nanekarwadi, Waki, Chimbali, Kuruli, and parts of Chakan itself. Furthermore, recognizing the traffic woes in Chakan, the plan also includes building new alternate bypass roads to help ease local congestion.
The project has received high-level attention. Dr. Amol Kolhe, Member of Parliament for Shirur, recently met with Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to discuss the project and ensure its progress. The central government has already given its approval, earmarking a significant budget of over ₹7,800 crore for the initiative.

While the path forward is clear, a few hurdles remain. The government needs to acquire approximately 14 hectares of land from about 150 landowners. Officials are hoping to speed up this process by offering incentives like Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) instead of direct cash payments, a method that has already proven successful in neighboring Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Once completed, the elevated corridor will be a game-changer, drastically reducing travel time, fuel consumption, and stress for everyone on the road, while providing a major boost to the region’s economic connectivity.
