Pune, September 02, 2025: Commuters on the busy Sinhagad Road can finally breathe easy. The city’s longest flyover, connecting Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theatre, was inaugurated on Monday by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and has now opened for traffic.

Built at a cost of ₹118.37 crore in three phases, the project promises a big relief for the over 1.5 lakh vehicles that use this corridor daily. Sinhagad Road is a key route linking Dhayari, Narhe, Khadakwasla, Vadgaon Budruk, and Nanded City, while also providing access to the Mumbai–Bengaluru highway. With the Mutha River on one side and hills on the other, widening the road was not an option, leaving a flyover as the only workable solution.

The project began in September 2021 when Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari performed the groundbreaking ceremony. Over the years, the work was taken up in three parts, a 520-metre stretch near Rajaram Bridge, a 2.1 km section from Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Theatre, and a 1.5 km stretch from Veer Shivaji Kashid Chowk to Late Prakash Vitthal Inamdar Chowk. Together, they now form a seamless elevated corridor.

Until now, the 2.6 km stretch between Rajaram Bridge and Fun Time Theatre would take nearly 30 minutes during peak hours, with commuters caught at six traffic signals. With the new flyover, the same journey takes barely 6 minutes.

The project also includes upgraded service roads, footpaths, parking facilities, and landscaped dividers. Under corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, beautification and maintenance have been planned for the next five years.

The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol, Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe, State Minister Madhuri Misal, MLAs Yogesh Tilekar, Bhimrao Tapkir, Bapusaheb Pathare, and Sunil Kamble, along with senior PMC and police officials.

The flyover is expected to ease congestion significantly and provide much-needed relief to thousands of residents and daily commuters along Sinhagad Road.
