Pune’s Double-Decker Flyover With Metro Set for Full Operation by Feb 2026; Baner Ramp to Open This Week
Pune, February 11, 2026: In a major boost to the city’s traffic infrastructure, the much-awaited double-decker flyover with integrated Metro corridor at Pune University Chowk is now in its final stage. The project, designed to ease severe congestion at University Chowk and Ganeshkhind Road, is expected to offer long-term relief to daily commuters.
Built on a single pillar structure, this modern engineering project has a Metro corridor on the upper deck and a road flyover on the lower level. The integrated design aims to ensure smooth coordination between Metro and road traffic.
The Aundh–Shivajinagar (E-Square) stretch of the flyover was opened to traffic on August 20, 2025. Now, the remaining Shivajinagar–Baner and Baner–Shivajinagar ramps are also ready and are expected to open for public use shortly. According to PMRDA officials, nearly 90 percent of the total construction work has been completed, with finishing touches like signage currently underway.

As per officials, the Baner side ramp is likely to become operational within this week, while work on the Pashan side is expected to be completed soon. The entire project is targeted for full completion by the end of February 2026.
Once fully operational, the double-decker flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time for commuters from Aundh, Baner, Pashan and Shivajinagar. Authorities have said the project will help cut down traffic congestion, fuel consumption and vehicular pollution in one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
PMRDA has stated that this integrated Metro and road traffic model is part of a larger plan to bring more speed, safety and sustainability to the Pune Metropolitan Region’s transport system.
For thousands of daily commuters crossing University Chowk, this long-pending project could finally mean smoother and faster journeys.
