Pune: Young Couple Commits Suicide Near Khadakwasla Dam in Shocking Incident
Pune, July 11, 2025 – In a tragic incident, a young couple allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in a forest area near Khadakwasla Dam, sending shockwaves across the city. Preliminary reports suggest that the duo, who had been in a relationship for the past three years, took the extreme step under unclear circumstances.
The incident came to light after the 16-year-old girl’s sister filed a missing complaint with the Wanwadi police station. According to the complaint, the girl was dropped off for her classes on Thursday afternoon but did not return home afterward. Concerned, her family approached the police, who began investigating the matter.
During the probe, police identified a male suspect, reportedly a resident of Karjat taluka in Ahmednagar district, whose mobile phone was found switched off. On Friday morning, the bodies of the young man and the girl were discovered near the Khadakwasla Dam forest area by locals, following which the Uttamnagar police alerted the Wanwadi police station.
Authorities confirmed that the couple consumed poison, leading to their deaths. No suicide note was found at the scene, but an empty poison container was recovered. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigations are underway to determine the exact cause behind the drastic step.
Police are probing whether family pressure, relationship troubles, or other personal issues drove the couple to suicide. The identities of the deceased are yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident has sparked grief and concern among locals, raising questions about mental health awareness and youth counseling in the region.
