Pune: Woman Raped in Forest as She Leaves Home After Fight With Husband
Lonavala, July 19, 2025 – A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 33-year-old woman in a secluded forest area near Lonavala, a popular hill station in Pune district. The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 15) after the victim left her home following a heated argument with her husband, reported PTI.
According to police officials, the woman, a resident of a village in Maval tehsil, in Pune district, was walking alone in heavy rain when an unidentified man intercepted her. The accused forcibly took her to a remote part of the forest and sexually assaulted her.
Senior Inspector Dinesh Tayde of the Lonavala Rural Police Station stated that upon receiving the victim’s complaint, a case was registered, and multiple police teams were deployed to track down the suspect.
“Through technical analysis, CCTV footage examination, and human intelligence, we identified the accused as Balu Shirke, a resident of a nearby village,” said Inspector Tayde. Shirke was arrested on Thursday (July 17) and is currently in police custody.
The case has sparked outrage, highlighting concerns over women’s safety in isolated areas. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation and swift legal action.
