Pune: When Will the Rain Return? Here’s What Experts are Saying
Pune News, July 22, 2025: After a brief dry spell, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra are set to witness a resurgence of monsoon activity starting July 23, according to weather experts. Anupam Kashyapi, former head of weather forecasting at IMD Pune, has indicated that favorable atmospheric conditions will likely intensify rainfall across the state in the coming days.
Monsoon Revival Triggered by UAC and Low-Pressure System
Kashyapi explained that an Upper Air Circulation (UAC) moving from South Odisha, followed by the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal by July 24, will reactivate the monsoon. This system is expected to enhance rainfall, making monsoon conditions “active to vigorous” in Maharashtra from June 23 onwards.
Orange Alert for Konkan & Ghat Regions
The intensified monsoon is likely to bring heavy rainfall, particularly in the districts of Konkan and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra (MM). An orange alert has been issued for these regions, warning residents of potential heavy downpours and related disruptions.
Increased Rainfall in Mumbai & Pune
Major cities, including Mumbai and Pune, are also expected to experience a significant increase in rainfall. Kashyapi advised citizens to “stay updated” on weather forecasts as conditions may change rapidly.
Precautionary Measures Advised
With the likelihood of heavy showers, authorities have urged people in vulnerable areas to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone zones. Commuters in Mumbai and Pune should prepare for possible waterlogging and traffic delays.
The IMD will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the weather system develops.
