Pune Weather: IMD Issues Red Alert for Ghats of Pune and Satara, Heavy Rains Expected

Pune, June 16, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the ghat areas of Pune and Satara districts today, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, along with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Residents and travelers have been advised to avoid venturing into ghats and hill slopes due to potential risks.
Following today’s severe weather warning, the ghats of Pune and Satara will remain under an orange alert for the next 3-4 days, with forecasts predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Meanwhile, Pune city is expected to experience moderate rainfall, with no specific weather warning issued by the IMD.
In addition to Pune and Satara, Raigad district has also been placed under a red alert today due to similar extreme rainfall predictions. Neighboring regions, including Palghar, Thane, and Mumbai, are under an orange alert, with expectations of heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places, though no further alerts have been issued beyond today.
The Vidarbha region remains under a yellow alert for the next few days, with forecasts indicating thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) at isolated places. In contrast, Marathwada has no specific weather warnings at this time.
