Residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad have raised concerns over the poor quality of water supplied by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), describing it as muddy, greenish, and having an unpleasant taste. Many have reported health problems such as stomach upsets and diarrhoea, allegedly due to the contaminated water.

Despite repeated complaints filed on PCMC’s ‘Sarathi’ portal, locals say no concrete steps have been taken to resolve the issue. As a result, several housing societies have turned to water tankers for daily use and bottled water for drinking. Shockingly, some residents have even discovered worms in their water supply, along with elevated Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels ranging from 200 to 250 ppm. Initially, people suspected the issue was limited to their own storage tanks or filters, but it soon became clear that the problem was widespread.

PCMC officials have acknowledged the complaints and promised to take immediate corrective measures, including flushing water lines to ensure clean and safe drinking water. However, residents remain doubtful, pointing to the increasing health complaints and the authorities’ delayed response. The situation has sparked serious questions about the efficiency of the city’s water treatment systems and the municipal corporation’s responsibility in safeguarding public health.

With the monsoon season approaching, there is an urgent need for PCMC to take swift and sustainable action to prevent further water contamination and ensure such crises do not recur in the future.
