Pune, May 31, 2025: In a significant development for Pune’s urban transit, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation and Pune Lok Sabha MP held a detailed discussion with Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi regarding the expansion of the Pune Metro project.

Given Pune’s rapid urban growth, the meeting focused on accelerating metro project approvals. The Union MoS emphasized the need for early Cabinet clearance for the proposed metro extensions from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk and from Ramwadi to Wagholi. These extensions have already received approval from the Maharashtra state government, and the Public Investment Board (PIB) granted its nod on March 11, 2025. The final step now lies with the Union Cabinet, and a request was made to table the proposal as soon as possible.

Additionally, discussions included securing PIB clearance for two more routes: Kharadi–Hadapsar–Swargate–Khadakwasla and the proposed Nal Stop–Warje–Manik Baug connector. These routes too have received state government approval and await review by the inter-ministerial committee and PIB. The Union Minister expressed positivity on both matters.

The Union MoS reiterated the Modi Government and Mahayuti Government’s commitment, under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, to fast-tracking Pune’s metro network expansion. He stated that efforts are underway to accelerate metro development across the city, with confidence that both projects will soon receive favorable decisions from the Centre.
