Pune: Traffic Police Book Over One Thousand Violators in One Day Outside Pune Airport

Pune traffic police’s airport traffic division booked 1,012 traffic violators in a single day on Tuesday outside Pune Airport, Lohegaon. Officials confirmed it was the highest number of penalties ever recorded in one day at a single location in the city.
The special drive began precisely at 12.01 am and targeted motorists committing various offences. These included illegal parking on approach roads, stopping in no-parking zones, halting in pick-up and drop-off lanes for extended periods, obstructing the movement of vehicles, and driving without valid documents. The operation continued till 11.45 pm the same night.
Traffic Police officials said, “This is the highest number of actions we have ever taken in a single day at a single location in Pune. The airport zone is a sensitive and high-traffic area, so maintaining order is crucial. Our team worked round-the-clock to ensure that enforcement was strict yet fair.”
Every violation was documented with photographic or video evidence, and all penalties were processed through the e-challan system. “We not only acted against the offenders but also prioritised smooth flow of traffic for commuters. The cooperation from the public helped us make this large-scale operation smooth and effective,” they added.
The traffic police control room was alerted before the crackdown began, and officers maintained a steady flow of traffic throughout the day without causing congestion. Remarkably, no disputes or altercations were reported despite the high number of penalties issued.
Many commuters welcomed the action. A traveller returning from Delhi, said, “The situation outside the airport has been getting chaotic for months, with cars double-parked and drivers stopping wherever they please. It creates a mess for passengers trying to get in or out. Today, I noticed traffic moving much more smoothly, and there was no unnecessary honking or blockage. If such strict action is taken regularly, people will think twice before violating the rules.”
The airport traffic division plans to continue regular enforcement drives to ensure safety and discipline in one of Pune’s busiest travel zones.
