Pune to Introduce Tourist Safety Fee at Scenic Spots; New Tourism Policy Underway
Pune, 18th June 2025 – In a bid to enhance safety and manage overcrowding at popular tourist destinations, the Pune District Administration has announced the introduction of a tourist safety fee for visitors. The decision comes in response to a rise in accidents, particularly during the monsoon season, due to unruly behavior and safety violations.
District Collector Jitendra Dudi revealed the plans on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for stricter regulations. “There is a significant surge in tourist footfall across Pune’s scenic locations during monsoons. However, overcrowding and safety violations have led to mishaps—some fatal. To prevent such incidents, we are introducing a structured tourism policy,” he stated.
Key Features of the New Tourism Policy
The upcoming policy, expected to be finalized within 15 days, will include:
- A fee structure for entry to tourist spots.
- Enhanced security measures and capacity restrictions.
- Barricades and designated safe zones to prevent accidents.
- Visitor management to regulate footfall.
The Forest Committee, a joint body comprising the Forest Department and local Gram Panchayats, will oversee the implementation. Their responsibilities include installing safety barricades, marking safe zones, and controlling the number of visitors at any given time.
Learning from Past Success
Dudi, drawing from his experience as District Collector in Satara, highlighted that similar measures had proven effective there. “We are confident that Pune’s tourist spots will also benefit from these regulations,” he added.
The administration has urged citizens and tourists to cooperate, ensuring a safer and more sustainable tourism experience in Pune.
