Pune: Techie’s Rape Case Takes Shocking Turn as Accused is Her Friend, Police Reveal

Pune News, July 06, 2025: In a dramatic twist to the alleged rape case of a Pune-based IT professional, the police revealed on Friday that the detained suspect was not a stranger posing as a courier agent but rather a friend of the victim. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that the woman herself took a selfie with the accused and later typed a threatening message on her phone, contradicting her initial claims.
Key Developments:
- The accused, employed at a reputed IT multinational in Pune, was detained from Baner but later released with a notice to cooperate with the investigation.
- Police found no evidence of forced entry or use of any spray, as alleged by the 22-year-old complainant.
- A selfie was taken with mutual consent, and the controversial text on the image was allegedly added later by the woman.
- The FIR was registered under Sections 64, 77, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
- Over 500 police personnel were deployed, and extensive CCTV footage was analyzed to trace the accused.
Police Statement:
Commissioner Kumar emphasized that the rape charge is still under investigation and urged the public and media not to jump to conclusions. “The complainant is not in a stable mental state, and further action depends on the ongoing inquiry,” he said.
The case, initially reported on Wednesday evening at Kondhwa Police Station, alleged that a man posing as a bank courier entered the victim’s home and raped her. However, police investigations have since raised doubts over this version of events.
Next Steps:
Authorities continue to probe the case, with more details expected soon.
