Pune, May 26, 2025 – A potential environmental disaster was narrowly avoided in Tamhini Ghat after a tanker carrying 24,000 liters of concentrated hydrochloric acid (HCL) overturned early Sunday morning. The SVRSS × RESQ team, in coordination with the forest department and local police, acted swiftly to contain the spill, preventing a large-scale hazard.

The incident, earlier reported by PuneNow, occurred near Dongargaon, approximately 40 km from Pune city. Authorities temporarily halted traffic on the Pune-Mahad route amid fears of an acid leak. Nearby residents reported mild eye and throat irritation, though no serious injuries were confirmed.

The tanker, owned by Advaya Chemical Industries, veered off the road and landed in a roadside trench. A rapid neutralization response using 800 kg of Hydrated Lime effectively controlled the spill. Inspector Santosh Girigosavi of Paud police confirmed that the company dispatched experts to assist in the operation.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade maintained a safe distance due to toxic fumes, while a crane was deployed for recovery efforts. Road closures within a 1 km radius were enforced as a precaution.
