In order to effectively to tackle chronic traffic congestion on the Pune-Solapur Highway, the Maharashtra state cabinet has approved a ₹5,262 crore project for a six-lane elevated corridor between Hadapsar and Yavat. The proposal, cleared on Monday, aims to alleviate persistent bottlenecks on this heavily congested stretch.
The Pune-Solapur Highway, a crucial national highway segment, has witnessed rapid urbanization around the Hadapsar-Yavat section in recent years. This has led to severe traffic snarls, with thousands of commuters facing prolonged delays during peak hours. The new flyover, to be constructed on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis, will include toll charges for vehicles using the elevated route. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will oversee land acquisition and project execution, with a strict three-year completion deadline post work order issuance.
Officials confirmed that compensation for affected landowners will be finalized through discussions before acquisition begins. Alongside the flyover, the existing highway between Hadapsar and Yavat will also be widened to six lanes. Once completed, the dual infrastructure upgrade is expected to ensure smoother traffic flow.
Key congestion hotspots like Manjari Phata, Kadamwak Vasti, Loni Kalbhor, Theur Phata, and Uruli Kanchan—where vehicles from Shindewane Ghat exacerbate jams—will see major relief. The elevated corridor, extending up to Yavat, is anticipated to eliminate these bottlenecks, providing much-needed respite for daily commuters. The decision was formalized through a government resolution issued by PWD Deputy Secretary Pragya Valke.
