Pune: Sinhgad Road Flyover Nears Completion; Full Stretch to Open for Traffic by Mid-August
Pune, July 24, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is in the final stages of completing the much-awaited Sinhgad Road flyover project, which is set to fully open for commuters by mid-August 2025. Once operational, the 2.5-km-long flyover—stretching from Funtime Theater to Vitthalwadi—will significantly ease traffic congestion on Narveer Tanaji Malusare Road (Sinhgad Road).
Constructed at a cost of ₹118 crore, the dual-flyover project is among the longest in Pune and was initiated on September 21, 2021, to address persistent traffic bottlenecks in the area. The first phase, from Inamdar Chowk to Funtime Theater, was opened ahead of schedule on May 1, 2025. The remaining stretch from Manik Baug to Vitthalwadi was initially slated for completion by December 2025 but has progressed faster than anticipated.
Final Phase Almost Complete
PMC officials had planned to open the third phase—from Funtime Theater toward Inamdar Chowk—in July. While most of the asphalting and concrete work is finished, minor tasks remain pending. Recent rainfall caused slight delays, but authorities expect to complete all work within the next two weeks.
PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. and Project Head Dinkar Gojare recently inspected the site, confirming that ramp sections and under-flyover road concreting have been completed. Only finishing touches remain before the flyover is fully operational.
Land Acquisition for Karvenagar-Suncity Bridge Resolved
In related developments, PMC has resolved land acquisition issues for the Karvenagar to Suncity bridge project. Necessary formalities will be finalized within a week, paving the way for smoother connectivity in the area.
Traffic Challenges Persist
Despite the flyover’s progress, traffic congestion remains a concern, particularly during peak hours. PMC and traffic police have implemented several measures, but bottlenecks continue near Vitthalwadi Chowk and the adjacent petrol pump. To mitigate future jams, roadside encroachment work—including footpath narrowing—is underway to optimize traffic flow.
Once fully operational, the Sinhgad Road flyover is expected to transform commuting in the region, reducing travel time and improving overall traffic management.
