Pune: Sinhagad Road Flyover Inaugurated by Ajit Pawar, Brings Major Traffic Relief

Pune, May 1, 2025: In a significant stride toward decongesting Pune’s traffic, the city today witnessed the inauguration of Phase 2 of its longest flyover, stretching from Vitthalwadi Arch to Fun Time Theater on Sinhagad Road. The flyover was inaugurated by Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, in the presence of Pune MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, who also chaired the event.
“This flyover is more than just a piece of infrastructure—it is the fulfillment of a commitment made to Puneites,” said Mohol, recalling his tenure as PMC Standing Committee Chairperson when the idea was first proposed and budget allocated. “Later, as Mayor, I had the opportunity to lay its foundation stone. It is deeply satisfying to see the project come full circle.”
The 2.2 km-long Phase 2 flyover, constructed using prestressed box girder technology, features a 7.3-meter-wide deck supported by 60 pillars. It seamlessly connects Rajaram Bridge to Fun Time Theater, covering crucial junctions such as Inamdar Chowk, Hingne Chowk, Santosh Hall Chowk, Dutt Hotel Chowk, and Goyal Ganga Chowk. It is expected to save commuters up to 30 minutes of travel time.
With this opening, over 1.5 lakh commuters from areas like Vadgaon, Dhayari, Nanded, Khadakwasla, Sinhagad Road, Anandnagar, Hingne, and Manikbaug will benefit daily. Local residents too are expected to see considerable relief from chronic traffic congestion.
The Sinhagad Road Flyover project is divided into three phases:
- Phase 1: Rajaram Bridge to Swargate (520 meters) – Opened in August 2024
- Phase 2: Vitthalwadi to Fun Time Theater (2.2 km) – Inaugurated today
- Phase 3: Goyal Ganga Chowk to Inamdar Chowk (1.5 km) – To be completed by June 15, 2025
The event was attended by several dignitaries including MP Dr. Medha Kulkarni, MLA Hemant Rasane, PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, along with Dattatray Dhankawade, Baba Misal, Manjusha Nagpure, Srikant Jagtap, Prasanna Jagtap, Anand Rithe, Mahesh Wable, Rajendra Shilimkar, Smita Vaste, Prashant Divekar, Raju Kadam, Karan Misal, Prashant Thopte, and Nikhil Shilimkar, among others.
