Pune, Maharashtra (June 5, 2025): Sinhagad Fort, closed to tourists since last week for anti-encroachment work, will reopen on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Haveli Sub-Divisional Officer Yashwant Mane confirmed that the fort will be accessible to visitors ahead of the Shivrajyabhishek Sohla on June 6. He stated that the removal of encroachments and clearing of landslide-prone areas is nearly complete.

Authorities discovered large-scale encroachments on the fort, including illegal RCC and stone structures. Parts of the access road were also found to be vulnerable to landslides during monsoon. To ensure safety and facilitate the anti-encroachment drive, tourist entry was restricted from May 29. During this period, the Forest Department demolished unauthorized shops, hotels, and houses, clearing approximately 20,000 square feet of illegal construction.

Mane explained that the temporary closure was necessary to protect tourists and allow uninterrupted work. Debris removal is expected to conclude by Wednesday, paving the way for the fort’s reopening on June 5. The administration timed the reopening to enable citizens to visit the historic site for Shivrajyabhishek Sohla celebrations.
