Pune, 17th May 2025: IPS officer Sandeep Singh Gill has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police (SP) for Pune Rural. Currently serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for Zone 1 in Pune City, Gill was formally relieved from his post by Pune City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Saturday to assume his new role.

Gill was initially transferred to Pune Rural in September last year following the transfer of then-SP Pankaj Deshmukh to Mumbai. However, Deshmukh secured a stay order from the Maharashtra Administrative Tribunal (MAT), delaying Gill’s takeover. Now, with Deshmukh’s recent transfer to Pune City Police as Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP), the path has been cleared for Gill to assume his position as Pune Rural SP.

Known for his disciplined and strategic policing, Gill’s tenure as DCP (Zone 1) saw improved law and order management, including effective coordination during major public events. His appointment is expected to bring enhanced crime control and citizen-friendly policing to Pune’s rural areas.
