Pune: Rural Police Destroy Illegal Opium Farming in Saswad, Two Arrested

Pune rural police opium crackdown

Pune Rural Police have taken significant action against illegal opium cultivation in the Saswad area. In a recent operation, authorities destroyed an illegal opium farm that was secretly set up within an onion field. This crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts to combat narcotic substance abuse and illegal cultivation in the region.

During the operation, two individuals were detained, suspected of being involved in the illegal cultivation of opium. The police also seized opium oil weighing approximately 10 kilograms and 500 grams, valued at around 21 thousand rupees. These actions were carried out under the stringent guidelines of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, specifically under Section 8B, 8C, 17C, and 29, which governs the illegal cultivation and trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

The Pune Rural Police have issued a stern warning to the public, emphasizing that the illegal cultivation of narcotic plants such as opium and ganja, in pursuit of quick money, is a violation of the law. They have made it clear that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of such offenses.

This operation is part of a broader initiative to address the illegal drug trade and cultivation in Pune and its surrounding areas. The police are committed to enforcing the law and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
