Major Push for Pune Infrastructure: Metro Feasibility, Elevated Roads Also Underway

PUNE: Maharashtra Public Works Minister Dada Bhuse has provided a significant update on the ambitious Pune Ring Road project, assuring the Legislative Assembly that the western section is slated for completion by 2026, with the eastern section to follow by 2028. This phased approach aims to drastically reduce the chronic traffic congestion plaguing Pune city and its surrounding areas.

Minister Bhuse gave the detailed timeline while responding to queries raised by MLAs Rahul Kool, Sunil Shelke, and Abhijeet Patil regarding critical infrastructure projects in the district.

Eastern Ring Road Work Moving Swiftly

The Minister informed the House that the administration has taken decisive steps to fast-track these major projects. Regarding the eastern section of the Ring Road:

  • Nine out of twelve packages are currently progressing rapidly.
  • The remaining three packages are in the process of administrative approval.
  • The tender process for these final three packages is expected to be completed before May next year, with on-ground work beginning by October of the same year.

Other Key Infrastructure Projects Gaining Momentum

In addition to the Ring Road, Minister Bhuse confirmed the forward movement of several other vital connectivity projects, which are being executed by the state’s MSIDC (Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation) department:

  • Metro Line Feasibility: The administration is currently examining the feasibility of a new Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor Metro Line.
  • Elevated Road Projects:
    • The tender process has been initiated for an elevated road connecting Hadapsar to Yavat.
    • The cabinet has officially approved an elevated road from Pune to Shirur.
  • Greenfield and Elevated Proposals:
    • Land acquisition is now complete for the Shirur–Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar greenfield project.
    • The tender process is currently underway for a proposed elevated road connecting Talegaon, Chakan, and Shikrapur.

The confirmation of clear timelines for the Ring Road and the simultaneous push for new elevated corridors and a metro line signal a strong governmental commitment to transforming Pune’s regional connectivity and mobility.
