Pune: Residents Face 10-Day Water Disruption Following Major Leak in Ravet Main Pipeline

No water supply in Pune

Pune, January 30, 2026: Residents in several areas of the city are set to face low-pressure and irregular water supply for the next 8 to 10 days. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that a major leak in the 700 mm diameter main water line located in the Ravet area has necessitated emergency replacement work.

According to the Bund Garden Water Supply Division, the leak was discovered in a nullah (stream) within the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) limits. Despite round-the-clock efforts to repair the existing line, the task proved impossible due to the challenging terrain. The site is heavily marshy and congested with a dense network of utility infrastructure, including high-voltage electrical cables, internet fibers, drainage lines, and stormwater pipes.

Shift from Repair to Replacement

In light of safety concerns and technical feasibility, the PMC engineering team has decided to abandon the repair of the old pipe and instead install a new alternative pipeline.

“The pipeline is situated approximately 20 feet deep in a swampy area,” a PMC official stated. “Given the depth and the interference of other service lines, it will take approximately eight to ten days to complete the installation of the new section.”

Affected Areas

While the main line remains shut, the PMC has diverted water through alternative channels. However, this will result in reduced pressure and erratic supply schedules for the following neighborhoods:

  • Kalas Malwadi
  • Jadhav Vasti
  • Ganesh Nagar (Bopkhel)
  • Vishrantwadi (Partial)
  • Mhaske Vasti
  • Sanjay Park
  • Burma Shell and Airport areas

The Pune Municipal Corporation has appealed to citizens in these localities to store water judiciously and cooperate with the department until the restoration work is completed. Residents can track updates or register grievances via the PMC CARE citizen engagement platform.
