Pune: Rain Likely in Various Parts of Maharashtra Including Pune in the Next 24 Hours; IMD Warns of Accompanying Heatwave

With April just behind, Maharashtra is gearing up for yet another spell of extreme weather. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued fresh alerts for the next 24 hours, warning of a unique combination of heatwaves and unseasonal rainfall across the state.

From May 2 afternoon onwards, light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in parts of Vidarbha. Rainfall activity is likely to increase further from May 3, potentially affecting even Pune and its surrounding areas for several days.
In a concerning development, the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for several districts, including Chandrapur (on May 3), and Bhandara, Gadchiroli, and Gondia (on May 4). Citizens are advised to take extra caution, especially avoiding open areas and sheltering under trees during lightning.

Mumbai and its suburbs may see a slight dip of 2–3°C in daytime temperatures, although high humidity will persist, causing discomfort. Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha remain under severe heat conditions, with intermittent and isolated showers expected to add to the unpredictability.
Regions such as Dharashiv, Latur, and Nanded could witness patchy rain and cloudy skies in the coming days. While North Konkan and East Vidarbha may see some relief, most of Maharashtra will continue to face oppressive heat.
May Forecast: A Heat and Rain Double Whammy
The IMD’s long-range forecast indicates a tough month ahead. May is likely to bring more than the usual number of heatwave days alongside above-normal summer rainfall across Maharashtra, Central, and Southern India. This dual threat is expected to create uncomfortable and possibly hazardous weather conditions throughout the month.
Residents are urged to stay updated with official advisories and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from both extreme heat and storm-related hazards.
