In response to the summer holiday surge in passenger traffic, the Pune Division of Central Railway, under the leadership of Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Kumar Verma, has introduced a new holding area at platform no. 1 of Pune Railway Station. This initiative is aimed at streamlining passenger movement, preventing overcrowding, and ensuring a safe and comfortable travel experience, particularly for general class travelers.
The newly established holding area is a shaded waiting zone equipped with essential amenities, including proper lighting, fans, portable toilets for men and women, and digital display boards providing real-time train updates. A help desk has also been set up to assist passengers with travel-related queries.
To maintain order and ensure safety, the station has deployed 25 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and 15 ticket-checking staff dedicated to crowd management. Additionally, a commercial inspector and a supervising officer are stationed to monitor the situation. General class passengers are systematically guided into the holding area and allowed onto the platform in an organized, queue-based system, minimizing congestion and reducing the risk of stampede-like situations during train arrivals.
The boarding process from the holding area is being conducted in a phased and disciplined manner, ensuring smooth movement and preventing overcrowding on the platforms. Furthermore, the sale of general tickets for summer special trains is being regulated based on real-time crowd levels, helping to manage passenger flow effectively during peak hours.
With these proactive measures, the Pune Railway Division is working to provide a safer and more organized travel experience during the busy holiday season.
