Pune: Purandar Airport on Track; Land Acquisition Gets a Boost With Attractive Compensation and Plots in Planned ‘AeroCity’
Pune News, July 21, 2025: In a welcome development for the long-pending Purandar International Airport project, the Pune district administration has announced a revised compensation package for farmers who voluntarily surrender their land. Under the new scheme, landowners will receive four times the market value of their property along with developed plots equivalent to 10% of their surrendered land in a planned ‘AeroCity’ near the proposed airport.

Key Highlights of the Compensation Package
- 10% Land Return Policy: Farmers who give self-consent will receive developed plots in the upcoming AeroCity, in addition to monetary compensation.
- First-Come, First-Served Basis: Plot allotments will prioritize early applicants, ensuring better-located land parcels.
- 700 Acres Reserved: The district administration has earmarked 700 acres near the airport site for the compensatory plots.
- Higher Monetary Compensation: Even non-consenting landowners will receive four times the market rate, though they won’t qualify for the 10% land return.
Land Acquisition Process Underway
The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Act, 2019 will govern the land acquisition process. Officials stated that only those who voluntarily part with their land will be eligible for the 10% compensatory plot benefit.
Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed that consent letters will be accepted starting today at the Pune Collector’s office or the Purandar Sub-Divisional Officer’s office in Saswad.

Project Scope & Current Support
The Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport will require 2,673 hectares of land across seven villages in Purandar taluka:
- Vanpuri, Udachiwadi, Kumbharvalan, Ekhatpur, Munjwadi, Khanwadi, and Pargaon
Of this, 1,500 hectares will be used for core airport infrastructure, while the remaining land will facilitate ancillary development and rehabilitation.
Official data reveals that 82% of landowners (10,849 out of 13,300) have not objected to the acquisition, indicating strong support. Only 18% (2,451 owners) raised concerns during the month-long hearing process.
Timeline & Future Plans
The Maharashtra government aims to complete land acquisition by end of 2025, with construction expected to begin by mid-2026 after tendering. Once operational, the airport will feature two parallel runways (4,000 x 60 meters) and serve not just Pune but western and central Maharashtra, boosting regional connectivity.
Conclusion
With the compensation package now finalized, the Purandar International Airport project is set to gain momentum, marking a major leap in Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure. The AeroCity is expected to emerge as a thriving commercial and residential hub, further enhancing economic opportunities in the region.
