Pune News, June 15, 2025: In response to severe waterlogging issues in Hinjawadi, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced measures to create adequate gaps in central medians along the ongoing Metro Line 3 (Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro) corridor. This initiative aims to improve rainwater drainage and prevent flooding, senior PMRDA officials confirmed on Saturday.

The decision follows multiple complaints of water accumulation disrupting traffic during recent heavy rains. PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase stated that the move was taken after consultations with traffic police, as several stretches in Hinjawadi faced severe waterlogging.

“If there are adequate gaps, water will not clog,” Mhase said, adding that work is already underway at multiple locations to address the issue. He has directed the Metro project concessionaire to clear all construction debris from roads, footpaths, and stormwater drains by June 22.

While persistent rainfall has slowed progress, Mhase assured that efforts are being intensified across the corridor. Median gaps have already been created in some areas, and trench work is also in progress.

To enhance coordination, PMRDA has formed a WhatsApp group with all stakeholders, enabling quicker responses to waterlogging and debris-related issues. A recent review meeting set a June 15 deadline for general civic works, but due to ongoing rains, clean-up and drainage efforts will continue throughout the week.

detailed report on civic issues and mitigation measures will be submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who chairs PMRDA. Additionally, Mhase confirmed that action against illegal constructions and industries is underway, with a separate report expected by Monday.

Recent Flooding Incidents
On June 7, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding on the MIDC road stretch between Metro Stations 3 and 4, affecting areas near Vilas Javadekar residential complex, Dohler Company, and Sahyadri Girls Hostel. Similar issues were reported in Hinjawadi Phases 1, 2, and 3, causing traffic congestion and inconvenience to residents.

PMRDA’s proactive measures aim to mitigate future waterlogging risks and ensure smoother traffic movement during monsoons.
