The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has unveiled a massive ₹3,000-crore road construction project aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity across Pune. The new road network will directly link major highways, including Satara Road, Ahilyanagar Road, Solapur Highway, Nashik Highway, and the Pune-Mumbai Highway.

Officials stated that the project will also improve road access to nearby villages and rapidly growing townships. Once completed, it is expected to significantly ease congestion in busy areas and provide smoother travel options for daily commuters.

PMRDA’s Plan for Better Roads
PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase emphasized that the initiative aims to connect all major highways through robust and safe roads. “We have identified the connecting roads and will carry out the work in different phases,” he said.

A senior PMRDA official confirmed that construction is already underway in 25 villages. Most roads will be built using cement concrete for durability, with stormwater drains and underground utility ducts to prevent future digging.

Faster Travel and Less Traffic
The new road grid will serve as alternate routes, diverting traffic from Pune’s main roads and reducing travel time for both residents and heavy vehicles like trucks. The road widths have been designed to accommodate future traffic demands, with technical surveys and utility shifting being conducted simultaneously to expedite the process.

Inner Ring Road Realignment Under Review
PMRDA is also reviewing a proposal to adjust the alignment of the proposed ₹14,200-crore inner ring road in certain areas to avoid displacing village homes. This ring road will connect key locations such as Lohegaon Airport and Hinjawadi IT Park.
