Pune: PMRDA Directs MIDC to Expedite Land Acquisition for Hinjawadi-Mann Road Widening and Other Infrastructure Projects
Pune News, June 27, 2025: In a decisive move to accelerate key infrastructure works in the Hinjawadi region, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has instructed the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) to urgently submit detailed land acquisition proposals to the District Collector. The directive aims to fast-track road widening and reduce the mounting traffic congestion in areas such as Hinjawadi, Mann, Mhalunge, and Marunji.
The order was issued during a review meeting at PMRDA’s Akurdi office on Thursday. Present at the meeting were MLA Shankar Mandekar, officials from MIDC, Public Works Department (PWD), Town Planning, and representatives of the local farming community.
Dr. Mhase highlighted the delays in acquiring land for the Mann Road widening project, which have significantly impacted daily commuters. He urged MIDC to prepare a comprehensive report detailing the extent of private land required and forward it promptly to the Collector’s office. He also directed the Survey and Land Records (SLR) department to speed up measurements, helping resolve confusion among landowners and paving the way for quicker implementation.
Farmers’ Interests Underlined
While the primary focus of the meeting was expediting land acquisition, Dr. Mhase also reassured affected farmers that their rights would be protected, and they would receive fair compensation or Transferable Development Rights (TDR) as per existing regulations. The administration was instructed to handle all compensation, land valuation, and TDR matters with full transparency and sensitivity to the farmers’ concerns.
Concerns Over Road Width
Farmers present at the meeting raised objections to the proposed 45-meter road width, expressing fears that such expansion would displace many homes within village boundaries. As a solution, they recommended reducing the width to 24 meters to minimize the social impact. Responding to this, PMRDA officials stated that work on alternative internal roads had already been approved and would commence shortly to decongest high-traffic areas without excessive displacement.
Commitment to Resolution and Transparency
The meeting also addressed longstanding issues related to TDR delays, inadequate land valuation, and compensation disputes. Dr. Mhase emphasized that the dialogue between government bodies and farmers must remain active and solution-oriented. He stressed that no farmer should face economic or social harm due to infrastructure upgrades.
