A high-level review meeting chaired by PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase at the Akurdi office on June 19, 2025 outlined urgent measures to address waterlogging, road repairs, and drainage issues ahead of the monsoon. The meeting, attended by MP Shrirang Barne, MLA Shankar Mandekar, and officials from MIDC, MPCB, Hinjawadi Metro, and local panchayats, revealed that 15 locations in Hinjawadi Phases 1-3 and along the Metro route had illegal constructions disrupting natural streams, worsening flooding.

Strict Action Against Violators

Dr. Mhase ordered immediate action against builders, companies, and residents violating norms, stressing zero tolerance for encroachments on drains and nullahs. “Unauthorized constructions have severely impacted water drainage, causing hardships for commuters and residents,” he stated.

Ongoing Civic Works

Key interventions underway include:

  • Road repairs near Hinjawadi IT Park & Metro routes
  • Debris clearance at Pandav Nagar (Phase 2) and Metro stations
  • Drain cleaning near Dohler Company, Sai Proviso building, and Station No. 2
  • Removal of illegal stalls near Metro Station No. 1
  • Streetlight repairs on Nande-Chande Road
  • Pothole filling by MIDC and Metro teams

Citizen Feedback & Inter-Agency Coordination

Local residents were invited to voice concerns, with officials directed to expedite solutions. Dr. Mhase emphasized inter-departmental cooperation, leading to visible improvements in drainage and road conditions despite rain delays.

Long-Term Measures

  • New sewage treatment projects for expanding urban zones
  • Mandatory stormwater trenches on all new roads
  • Preservation of natural streams with hydrology-compliant designs

The PMRDA’s swift action has been welcomed as a critical step to mitigate monsoon woes in Pune’s fast-growing tech corridors.
