Pune News, July 01, 2025: In a significant move to address civic concerns and alleviate traffic congestion in Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase conducted a comprehensive inspection on Tuesday. Accompanied by senior officials, Dr. Mhase assessed compliance with earlier directives to restore natural water flow in streams and drains, which had been obstructed at 13 locations across Hinjawadi Phases 1, 2, and 3—including areas along the Metro route.
Strict Action Against Non-Compliance
PMRDA and MIDC had previously issued notices, mandating restoration work by June 30. During the inspection, officials verified adherence to these orders and warned of strict action against violators. Dr. Mhase emphasized that encroachments blocking drainage channels—a major cause of waterlogging—would be cleared, and FIRs would be filed against persistent offenders.
Marunji-Wipro Circle Road to Ease Traffic Woes
A key highlight of the visit was the announcement that the final 300-meter stretch of the Marunji-Wipro Circle Road will commence construction tomorrow. The 2.5 km road, initiated in 2022, had faced delays due to land disputes, leaving the last segment incomplete. Dr. Mhase assured that with police deployment, the work would be completed within eight days. Once operational, the road—connecting to Laxmi Chowk—is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion in Hinjawadi.
Residents Demand Long-Term Solutions
The inspection comes amid growing frustration among locals over persistent infrastructure issues, including waterlogging, poor roads, and erratic water supply. Many residents advocate for Hinjawadi’s merger with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for better governance.

Dr. Mhase acknowledged the multi-agency challenges, stating, “Some issues fall under PMRDA, others under MIDC. We have issued stop-work orders to 12 non-compliant developers. If they continue to ignore directives, legal action will follow.”
The inspection team included Additional Commissioner Deepak Singla, Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, and Director of Town Planning Sunil Marale, among others.
