Pune, June 04, 2025: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) reported a significant revenue increase of ₹55 lakh on the first day of its fare hike, despite operating fewer buses due to it being a Sunday. The public transport body generated ₹1.97 crore in total revenue, surpassing its average daily earnings of ₹1.42 crore.

According to PMPML authorities, 1,554 buses were deployed on Sunday, though around 1,000 scheduled buses remained off the roads. Despite reduced operations, 945,971 commuters used the service, contributing to the revenue spike of ₹5,502,199 over the usual daily average.

Satish Gavhane, Chief Manager of the Operations Department, stated, “This unexpected yet encouraging response suggests commuters have accepted the revised fare structure positively. We are committed to improving efficiency, reliability, and convenience in PMPML services.”

A daily commuter said, “If the fare hike leads to better services—cleaner buses, smoother rides, and punctuality—it’s a reasonable step.”

PMPML operates 1,650 buses daily across Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and suburban areas. The revised fare sets a minimum of ₹10 for 1-5 km, aimed at strengthening finances and enhancing service quality.
