Pune: PMC Intensifies Citywide Road Repairs During Monsoon Lull; Over 3,300 Potholes Fixed
Pune News, June 23, 2025: Seizing a brief break in monsoon rains, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has accelerated road repair and maintenance operations across the city. The civic body is employing multiple techniques to address potholes and damaged stretches, particularly in areas affected by waterlogging and early monsoon damage.
According to PMC’s Road Department, out of 3,377 potholes identified citywide, 3,331 have already been repaired, leaving only 46 remaining. This swift response follows extensive road damage caused by heavy early monsoon showers and clogged stormwater drains.
Despite pre-monsoon preparations, intense June rains washed away much of the groundwork. Media reports and citizen complaints about deteriorating road conditions pushed the administration to act quickly. With hot asphalt now available from PMC’s asphalt plant, repairs have resumed at full speed in both central and suburban areas.
Five-Pronged Repair Strategy
PMC has adopted five different repair methods based on material availability and site conditions:
- Hot Asphalt – Used where dry conditions allow.
- Cold Bag Mixes – Applied where hot mix isn’t feasible.
- Chemical and Concrete Repairs – For durable patchwork.
- Paver Blocks with Gravel/Concrete Fill – Ideal for deep potholes and poorly drained roads, like the Katraj-Kondhwa stretch.
- Traditional Patchwork – Used for particularly deep or hazardous potholes.
Additional Maintenance Efforts
Beyond potholes, the Road Department has also:
- Repaired 388 roadside chambers
- Resolved 125 water-logging hotspots
