Pune: PMC Demolishes Over 37,000 Square Feet of Illegal Structures in Major Anti-Encroachment Drive

PMC Demolition Drive in Pune

PUNE – In a significant crackdown on unauthorized urban expansion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted an extensive anti-encroachment drive on Thursday, April 2, 2026. Acting under the direct orders of the Municipal Commissioner, enforcement teams cleared approximately 37,880 square feet of illegal constructions across several key neighborhoods.

The operation, which commenced at 9:00 AM, targeted unauthorized “kacha” and “pukka” (temporary and permanent) structures in the following areas:

  • Kausar Bagh and Kondhwa Khurd
  • Wanowrie and Kondhwa (Old Limit)
  • Burning Ghat Riverfront site
  • Nagras Road, Aundh

The scale of the demolition required a massive mobilization of resources. The PMC deployed a specialized task force comprising 70 labor workers, 25 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) jawans, and 5 municipal police officers to ensure the site remained secure during the proceedings. Heavy machinery, including two JCB excavators and two gas cutters, was utilized to dismantle the reinforced structures.

Senior PMC officials and staff supervised the drive, noting that the targeted buildings had bypassed mandatory planning permissions and safety regulations. This action is part of a broader initiative by the civic body to reclaim public land and discourage the mushrooming of illegal developments that strain the city’s infrastructure.

Municipal authorities have indicated that similar enforcement actions will continue in the coming weeks to maintain the integrity of Pune’s urban development plan.
