Pune: PMC Demolishes 6,500 Sq Ft of Illegal Constructions in Viman Nagar; Rameshwaram Cafe, Neco Garden Area Targeted
Pune | March 4, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday carried out a major demolition drive in Viman Nagar, removing around 6,500 square feet of illegal constructions across multiple locations in the busy locality.
The action, undertaken on the morning of March 4, focused mainly on unauthorised front margin extensions that had encroached on public spaces and were found to be in violation of development control norms.
One of the prominent establishments where action was taken was Rameshwaram Cafe. Civic officials demolished the illegal front margin structure at the eatery as part of the drive. Authorities said such constructions were obstructing pedestrian movement and affecting road visibility.
Apart from this, the demolition squad also acted against illegal structures near Neco Garden, Sambar Hotel Lane, Krishna Hotel Chowk and Ganpati Mandir Chowk. Encroachments extending beyond permissible limits were removed using heavy machinery. Adequate police bandobast was deployed during the operation to avoid any untoward incident.
According to PMC officials, notices had been issued earlier to the violators. The drive was conducted after receiving complaints about congestion, blocked footpaths and safety risks in the area, which has seen rapid commercial growth in recent years.
Civic authorities said such enforcement drives will continue in other parts of the city as well. The aim is to ensure strict compliance with building regulations and prevent misuse of public land.
Many local residents welcomed the move, stating that regular action against illegal constructions is necessary to maintain order and ensure smoother traffic and safer pedestrian access in high-footfall areas like Viman Nagar.
