Pune: PMC Demolishes 24 Illegal Structures in Lohgaon’s Air Force Buffer Zone in Major Crackdown
Pune News, June 25, 2025: In a decisive move against unauthorized constructions, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday demolished 24 illegal structures within the 900-meter restricted buffer zone of the Indian Air Force (IAF) bomb dump in Lohgaon. The operation targeted approximately 48,000 square feet of illegal development encroaching upon sensitive defense and agricultural zones.
Strict Action Against Violators
The PMC’s Construction Department, backed by multiple JCBs, cutters, and a heavy police presence, carried out the demolition to prevent disruptions. Officials confirmed that the structures violated both urban planning norms and national security regulations, as they were built within the 100-meter restricted radius of the IAF protection wall and on agricultural land.
Officials who led the drive, stated, “These illegal constructions were recently erected without permissions in a highly sensitive area, endangering both civilian and defense security.”
Notices Ignored, Forcing Action
All 24 property owners had been served prior demolition notices, but with no compliance, the PMC proceeded with the operation. The drive was supervised by PMC engineers, supported by municipal staff and police personnel.
Heavy Security Deployment
A significant police force was deployed to maintain law and order during the demolition. While affected residents lamented financial losses, PMC officials reiterated that repeated warnings had been disregarded.
PMC Vows Continued Enforcement
PMC officials warned that similar illegal constructions in buffer zones and no-development areas would face strict action. “The safety of defense installations is non-negotiable. Further action against violators will continue as per rules,” an official stated.
Authorities have urged developers and residents to adhere to zoning laws, emphasizing that the 900-meter IAF buffer zone is a strict no-construction area. Monitoring will continue to prevent re-encroachment.
