Pune: PMC Conducts Major Anti-Encroachment Drive in Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar, Seizes 10 Truckloads of Material
Katraj, 11th July 2025 – Acting on residents’ complaints, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) launched a large-scale anti-encroachment drive in the Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar area, clearing footpaths, roads, and public spaces of illegal structures. The operation, conducted between PICT and Bharati Vidyapeeth’s back gate, resulted in the seizure of 10 truckloads of encroachment materials.
Key Highlights of the Drive
- Area Covered: The drive focused on unauthorized structures between PICT main gate and Bharati Vidyapeeth back gate.
- Materials Seized: Authorities confiscated 3 handcarts, 22 iron counters, 6 steel counters, tables, chairs, tents, and 16 temporary huts, among other encroaching materials.
- Public Space Freed: Roads, footpaths, and public spaces were cleared to improve accessibility and reduce traffic congestion.
- Officials Present: The operation was supervised by Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Sandeep Khalate, Deputy Commissioner (Circle No. 3) Vijaykumar Thorat, and Assistant Commissioner Surekha Bhange.
- Enforcement Team: The PMC team included Divisional Officer Narayan Sable, Inspector Bhimaji Shinde, Junior Engineer Vandana Gawari, 4 police personnel, 21 Maharashtra Security Force members, and 45 casual workers.

Why the Drive Was Conducted
Local residents had repeatedly raised concerns about illegal encroachments causing traffic bottlenecks and obstruction of public pathways. The PMC took action to restore order and ensure smooth movement in the area.
