Pune News – The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 38 key traffic hotspots where electric poles installed by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) are causing severe congestion since 2010. To address the issue, PMC has allocated ₹50 crore for their removal, prioritizing safety and smoother traffic flow on major roads.
The PMC’s road and electrical department has confirmed that the relocation of these poles, along with distribution points (DPs) and feeders, will be completed within a year. Officials from the PMC electrical department, stated that the worst-affected areas include Sinhagad Road, Ahmednagar Road, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Satara Road, and suburban zones like Dhayari and Kharadi.
Residents and citizen forums have long complained about the PMC and MSEDCL’s inaction. Sunil Koloti of the Mohammed Wadi-Undri Residents Welfare Development Forum (MURWDF) expressed frustration over delayed responses but welcomed the police intervention. Meanwhile, MSEDCL officials have shifted blame to the PMC, citing coordination issues.
With ongoing roadwork at Kad Nagar-Undri junction further complicating traffic, citizens demand immediate action to relocate hazardous poles and ensure road safety.
