Pune: Phase 2 of Metro to Connect Swargate, Hadapsar & Warje With 31 New Stations, DPR Underway

The first phase of Pune Metro is nearing completion, and authorities have now begun planning Phase 2, which will expand connectivity across the city. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently in progress, with the state government approving the proposal in October 2024. However, final clearance from the central government is still pending.
Phase 2 will include two key routes:
Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Swargate & Hadapsar
- Distance: 25.8 km
- Stations: 22
- Cost: ₹8,131 crore
Nal Stop to Manik Baug via Warje
- Distance: 6 km
- Stations: 6
- Cost: ₹1,765 crore
Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Pune Metro Rail, stated that design consulting for 14 elevated stations on the Kharadi-Khadakwasla corridor has begun. Additionally, a DPR is being prepared for new corridors connecting Pune Airport (Lohegaon) and a spur line to Kondhwa, Undri, and Yewalewadi.
Meanwhile, Phase 1 operations are fully functional on the Vanaz-Ramwadi and PCMC-Swargate routes, while work continues on the Swargate-Katraj and PCMC-Nigdi extensions. The Ramwadi-Wagholi and Vanaz-Chandni Chowk extensions await central approval.
All new stations will adhere to IGBC Green MRTS standards, incorporate solar energy, and explore non-fare revenue opportunities. Pedestrian connectivity will be enhanced via foot overbridges (FOBs), including a 350m FOB linking Hadapsar Metro and Railway stations and a 450m FOB spanning State Highway 27.
