Pune: Notorious Thief Targeting Passengers in PMPML Buses Arrested; 20 Theft Cases Solved
Pune News, July 14, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Wanwadi Police team has arrested a skilled thief involved in multiple thefts targeting elderly women passengers on Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses. The accused, identified as Chandrakant Raju Jadhav (31, resident of Sarvodaya Colony, Mundhwa), was apprehended after a well-planned operation, leading to the recovery of stolen gold ornaments worth ₹3.51 lakh.
Modus Operandi: Targeting Elderly Women
Jadhav specialized in stealing gold chains and bangles from women passengers by creating chaos while boarding buses. His arrest has uncovered 20 theft cases across various police jurisdictions, including Wakad, Sangvi, Chaturshringi, Mundhwa, and Wanwadi.
Police Sting Operation
The arrest came after Wanwadi Police received a tip-off about a suspicious individual inquiring about gold shops in Shindewasti. A team led by Police Sub-Inspector Dhanaji Tone set up a trap, leading to Jadhav’s capture. Upon searching him, police recovered four gold bangles weighing 4 tolas (approx. 46.6 grams). During interrogation, Jadhav confessed to using a cutter to snatch bangles from women passengers and fleeing at the next bus stop.
Police Team Credited
The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of:
- Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Rajkumar Shinde
- Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhanyakumar Godse
- Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Admane
- Crime Branch Inspector Vijaykumar Doke
- Police Officers Atul Gaikwad, Amol Pilane, and Vishnu Sutar
Rise of Theft Gangs on PMPML Buses
Police have also raised concerns about organized theft gangs, particularly involving women, who create distractions to steal valuables. Authorities believe Jadhav’s arrest will help curb such crimes.
