Pune-Nashik Expressway to Slash Travel Time to 3 Hours, Boost Industrial Growth: Maharashtra Minister
Pune, July 12, 2025 – In a significant development for Maharashtra’s infrastructure, the proposed Pune-Nashik Industrial Expressway is set to revolutionize travel and commerce between the two major cities, reducing travel time to just 2.5 to 3 hours, Maharashtra Minister Dadaji Bhuse announced in the Legislative Council on Thursday.
Expressway to Accelerate Economic and Industrial Growth
Responding to a query from legislator Satyajit Tambe, Minister Bhuse confirmed that the Pune-Nashik Industrial Expressway plan is in its final stages and will be completed within three years after approval.
“This expressway is a major and ambitious project that will significantly boost development,” Bhuse stated. “Once operational, it will drastically cut travel time between Pune and Nashik, benefiting industries, transportation, and tourism.”
The 205-kilometer expressway will establish a strong industrial corridor, linking numerous small, medium, and large-scale industries while also improving connectivity to several pilgrimage sites and fostering development in villages along its route.
Fair Land Acquisition & Farmer Compensation
Acknowledging concerns over land acquisition, Bhuse assured that the government is taking special care to ensure fair treatment of farmers, as the project involves acquiring both dry and irrigated agricultural lands.
“Every stage of land acquisition will be carried out with the consent and involvement of farmers, ensuring legal compliance and fair compensation,” the minister emphasized.
Technical Adjustments & Coordination with Authorities
Bhuse revealed that certain technical considerations are being addressed, including alignment adjustments in coordination with defense officials in Nashik, the proposed Nashik Ring Road, and the Surat-Chennai Expressway.
“Specialists are being consulted to finalize the alignment before proceeding,” he added.
Long-Pending Rail Connectivity Still in Limbo
While the expressway promises to transform regional connectivity, the long-pending direct rail link between Pune and Nashik remains stalled in planning stages. Currently, travelers must rely on roadways or indirect train routes.
Sustainable Development & Infrastructure Focus
The project aligns with Maharashtra’s broader push for sustainable infrastructure development, balancing economic growth with environmental and social considerations.
Key Benefits of the Pune-Nashik Expressway:
- Reduced travel time (2.5–3 hours vs. current 5–6 hours)
- Boost to industries, logistics, and employment
- Improved connectivity to pilgrimage sites
- Fair compensation for affected farmers
- Enhanced regional economic integration
With the expressway set to become a game-changer for Maharashtra’s infrastructure, stakeholders eagerly await its final approval and swift execution.
