Pune: MSRTC to Launch Live Bus Tracking Feature on Mobile App for 700+ Buses by August-End
Pune, July 23, 2025: In a significant move to enhance passenger convenience, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is set to introduce live bus tracking on its official mobile application. The feature, initially being rolled out in Pune, will cover over 700 buses and is expected to be available to the general public by the end of August.
How Will Live Tracking Work?
Passengers will be able to track their bus in real-time by entering the ‘Trip Code’ provided on their ticket into the MSRTC mobile app. This will display the bus’s current location and estimated arrival time at their boarding station, helping commuters plan their journeys better and reduce waiting time at bus stands.
Additional Features of the MSRTC App
The MSRTC app, already available on the Play Store, offers multiple travel-related services, including:
- Online ticket booking
- Route details and schedules
- Estimated arrival times
- Emergency functions (reporting breakdowns, medical assistance requests, and accident alerts)
Arun Siya, Pune MSRTC Divisional Controller, stated, “The live tracking system is part of our broader strategy to modernize public transport. By integrating real-time data, we aim to improve service reliability and encourage more people to use state-run transport.”
Current Status & Future Plans
Currently, the live tracking system is operational internally for MSRTC staff. A trial version is underway, and after evaluation, the feature will be made public by August-end. Once fully functional, Pune will be among the first cities in Maharashtra to offer this facility, marking a major step toward smart mobility in public transportation.
