Pune News, June 27, 2025: In a significant move to bolster Pune’s urban security, a high-level review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Home, Yogesh Kadam, to evaluate the current CCTV surveillance system and chart a future roadmap for its improvement. The meeting was prompted by a ‘calling attention’ motion raised by Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole during the 2025 Budget Session in the Vidhan Sabha, where he highlighted the alarming issue of non-functional CCTV cameras across the city.

During the meeting, MLA Shirole emphasized the urgent need for a structured, policy-driven framework to manage and maintain Pune’s CCTV network. He pointed out the lack of defined accountability as a critical flaw, leading to numerous cameras becoming non-operational within a year of installation. “This is a serious gap in our urban safety net that must be addressed,” Shirole asserted.

Among his key proposals was the recommendation to lay CCTV cabling underground to prevent frequent damage and tampering, ensuring long-term reliability. “Modern surveillance requires not just technology, but accountability and long-term planning. Pune’s safety deserves nothing less,” he added.

Minister Kadam assured swift action, announcing the formation of a secretary-level coordination committee comprising all relevant agencies to develop a unified policy for sustainable urban surveillance. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary (Home) Anup Kumar Singh and senior officials from the Home and Urban Development departments.

This initiative marks a crucial step toward enhancing public safety in Pune, ensuring that surveillance infrastructure remains functional, efficient, and tamper-proof.
