Pune: Metro Sees Surge in Ridership with Over 3.19 Lakh Passengers in a Day
Pune, June 21, 2025 – The Pune Metro witnessed an exceptional surge in ridership on Friday, June 20, with 3,19,066 passengers traveling across its network. This marks one of the highest single-day footfalls in recent times.
This surge was largely due to the arrival of the Palkhis of Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj for Ashadhi Wari 2025 to the city and most of the roads were either closed to traffic or had huge traffic jams, so commuters preferred to take the metro to reach their destinations.
To accommodate the increased demand, Pune Metro operated 130 additional trips on both Line 1 (Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate) and Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi), ensuring minimal crowding and efficient service. The administration thanked commuters from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad for their strong response.
“Pune Metro remains dedicated to delivering safe, comfortable, and timely journeys for all passengers. The high ridership reflects the growing preference for metro travel, and we will continue optimizing our services,” said a metro spokesperson.
The surge highlights the metro’s expanding role in Pune’s urban transport network, offering a faster and greener alternative to road travel.
