Pune News, July 09, 2025: In a bid to streamline public transport and reduce traffic congestion, Maha Metro and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) are collaborating to develop dedicated bus terminuses near the Swargate and Civil Court Metro stations. The move comes in response to long-standing complaints from commuters about chaotic bus stops and inadequate facilities in these key areas.

Current Challenges & Proposed Solutions

Currently, buses halt on the main road near Swargate, causing severe traffic bottlenecks. A similar issue plagues the stretch between Civil Court and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters, where haphazard bus stops disrupt smooth movement.

Officials from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) confirmed to Times of India (TOI) that discussions are underway to finalize plans for integrated bus terminuses adjacent to the Metro stations. An anonymous Maha Metro official stated, “Basic construction has begun. The new terminuses will cater to both Metro and bus commuters while improving traffic flow.”

Commuters Demand Better Amenities

Regular commuters in Swargate highlighted the lack of basic facilities like shelters and waiting areas at existing bus stops. One traveler remarked, “The new terminus must have proper space for commuters and dedicated walkways.”

PMC sources revealed that a large plot along the irrigation canal in Swargate has been allocated for the Metro hub, with part of the space reserved for a PMPML bus terminus, parking, and commercial use.

Public Feedback & Expectations

A daily bus traveler from Swargate to Bhosari, pointed out the stark contrast between PMPML’s outdated stops and Metro’s modern stations, urging authorities to upgrade bus facilities.

Similarly, commuters near Civil Court suggested consolidating scattered bus stops into a single terminus in the Civil Court-Kamgar Putala zone to ease congestion.

What’s Next?

With Maha Metro and PMPML actively working on the plan, Pune’s public transport system is set for a major upgrade. Once operational, the new terminuses are expected to reduce traffic chaos, improve commuter convenience, and enhance last-mile connectivity with the Metro.
